who are we

Guy Channing is a photographer with some 25 years industry experience having joined a local newspaper here in Devon as a freelance trainee in the late 1980's. Three years later he joined the Western Morning News Company's NCTJ Training scheme as one of 6 photographers working for The Herald in Plymouth. During his time as a trainee Guy travelled to Norway twice with 3 Commando Brigade, to France, the Adraitic with The Royal Navy and most notably to Somalia with Save the Children at the height of that countries second devestating famine.

On qualifying from Stradbroke College, Sheffield Guy spent a further two years as a staffer during which time he travelled to Russia before becoming a freelance photographer in 1994. In the next two years he built up an excellent client base in the Southwest but chose to return to THe Herald as their Deputy Picture Editor.

In the last few years the face of local journalism has changed almost beyond recognition and it was this change in the industry that prompted Guy's decision to once again embark on a freelance career.

Along side his professional career as a freelance photographer Guy has started as seperate web based business www.livinghistorypix.com. This is a site aimed at the UK living history or re-enactment scene to give it a more accurate name.

As a long term living history enthusiast himself it seemed a very sensible idea to combine his two greatest passions of photography and re-enactment to produce some  evocative and timeless images.

The results of this season are included on the site in downloadable galleries as well as the more traditional print option. Take a moment to browse the galleries, you won't be dissapointed.

Working closely with his colleague Paul Tancock www.livinghistorypix.com has attended some of the premier living history events this season and promises to attend many more in the coming months.

Business is growing steadily with the number of regular clients building week to week.

" I love the challenge" says Guy "you never know from one day to the next what the job will throw up. It can be a PR shoot for the likes of Groundwork South West, a military assignment for The Defence Picture Library or an education based job at the University. Its certainly never boring and the diversity of assignments means I'm constantly changing shooting styles."

I'd love be of assistance, just give me a call. In my career so far I've been lucky enough to work in a massive variety of enviroments. It's given my work a lot of strength and certainly makes it a little more interesting.
